San Diego Bassmasters Bass Fishing Club
Special News Bulletin
From Greg Gardner
This is in addition to my newsletter article. I failed to tell you all that we have to draw for TWO tournaments at our June meeting (6/3/08). Otay is scheduled for June 7th, I told you about that one. And at that meeting we also have to draw for the San Vicente night tournament. So please plan for that. If you cannot make the June 3rd meeting, please call me at work to express your plans to fish either tournament. I can be reached at: (619) 449-3474. This is important to ensure your show up points. Do not leave a message at my home number if it is after 5:00 p.m. on June 3, as I will be at work and that is the last time that message machine will be checked before the meeting.
The San Diego Bassmasters, the oldest and largest bass fishing club in San Diego County, was also the first B.A.S.S. Chapter in San Diego County and the third in California.
We welcome anyone who is interested in bass fishing to attend one of our monthly meetings. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month and begin promptly at 7:00 PM. The meetings are held at the new Anglers Marine facility in Santee, 10960 Wheatlands Avenue; Suite 101, Santee (Right next to the Santee Drive-In) MAP There are no prerequisites for membership other than basic fishing skills and a love of fishing. Persons without boats are welcome.
The San Diego Bassmasters fish 10 tournaments per year, which count towards our year-end awards. These awards are presented during our annual Awards Banquet. We typically fish three or four of our tournaments at lakes outside of San Diego County. These "out of town" tournaments may include the lower Colorado River, Lake Havasu, Lake Mead, and lakes in Arizona such as Alamo and Roosevelt. The remaining tournaments are fished locally, and may include one or two night tournaments.
In addition to fishing, the San Diego Bassmasters hold a number of family orientated events each year. These events include bowling, twilight saltwater fishing, Padres baseball, a family fishing tournament, a fish fry, a chili cook-off, a monthly Sunday night dinner get-together at a local restaurant, a tournament of champions and a picnic. These events promote a sense of family to the club, which accounts for it’s many long-term members. Harold Stephens, a Charter Member and this years Club President, has been active in tournaments and club functions for 35 years, while many other members are celebrating memberships in excess of 25 years.
The San Diego Bassmasters have participated in many community activities over the years. For example, since 1985, the San Diego Bassmasters collected food and donations for El Cajon’s Crisis House, which aids families in need of emergency assistance. Last years contribution was valued at over six thousand dollars. The Club also makes an annual college scholarship award to a deserving student. |
